Short introduction of the Vidyalaya (its year of inception etc.)
In accordance with the National Policy of Education (1986), Govt. of India started Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya all over the country. These are co-educational and residential schools fully financed by the Govt. of India and run by an autonomous organization called Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti under the Ministry of Human Resources Development.
Objectives of the Scheme
- To provide good quality modern education including a strong component of culture, inculcation of values, awareness of the environment, adventure activities and physical education of talented children from rural areas without regard to their family"s socio-economic condition.
- To ensure that students attain a reasonable level of competency in three languages as envisaged in Three Language Formula.
To serve in each district as focal point for improvement of quality of school education in general through sharing of facilities and experiences.The establishment of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in each District has heralded a new era in the history of Indian School Education especially due to the residential system on the line of Modern Public School.The main objectives of these Vidyalayas are:
a. To promote National Integration through a specific programme of education.
b. To nurture talent particularly in the rural areas and in the weaker sections of the society.
c. To provide quality education to the talented children in the villages.
d. To establish institutions of high quality at District Level as pace setters.
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. The track record of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti since its inception in 1986 has set impressive milestones in the field of education in rural India. The Vidyalayas are residential co-educational and fully financed by the Govt. of India and function through an autonomous organization called the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti.
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Khordha was started in Chuda during the year 2003-04. From the academic session 2009-10, the institution has been functioning at the permanent site.
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas have unique features in their educational action plan programme in the following modules.
1. Developing creative thinking.
2. Diagnostic and remedial teaching.
3. Teacher morale and understanding teacher behaviour.
4. Inspection tools.
5. Continuous and comprehensive evaluation.
The Vidyalaya is functioning with personnel of 35.The Principal is the administrative head. There are 07 PGTs, 06 TGTs, 06 Misc. Staff members and 15 Non Teaching Staff. The success of this Vidyalaya is because of nothing but the co-operation of the entire staff.
The Student strength as on today is 279 with 104 girls and 175 boys and 12 staff wards.
In the March 2013, CBSE Examinations the Vidyalaya achieved the 100% pass percentage in X class with an average of 8.52 percentile rank and 97.10% in XII class with an average of 73.01.
In class X Kumari Swati Snigdha Priyadarshni secured the first position with grade point 10 and 10 students secured grade point 10.
In class XII Kum. Bishnupriya Maharana secured the first position with 92.20% and Mast. Ashok Kumar Sahoo secured the second position with 91.4%.
Three of our students Master Sagen Soren, Master Chinmaya Kumar Sahoo, Kumari Mamali Madhusmita Dalei have qualified in the examination conducted by Dakshina Foundation and they are provided with free coaching for IIT at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Pune and Lucknow. Apart from this Master Shubha Prakash Mishra has qualified Atom 50 and he is provided free coaching for Medical at Akash Institute, BBSR .
Kumari Shatabdi Kalpita Nanda has bagged 1st prize and awarded Rs 1000 in quiz competiotion in Block level on the eve of energy conservation day 2013.
The Students of our Vidyalaya participated in the Quiz and Drawing Competitions conducted by The Regional Museum of Natural History. Our students bagged the II position in both Quiz and Drawing Competition.
Every year the best student of XI Std is selected for participation in the Science Congress. This year Mr. Y. Das P.G.T. Maths & Mrs. Kabita Kar - P.G.T. Phy. with Kumari Roja Samantray attended this programme.
Pace Setting Activity :
One of the objectives of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti is to be a pace setter to the neighbouring institutions. Under this programme District level Vana Mahostav programme was organised with the colaberation of Divisional Forest office, Khordha on 7th July 2013. Honourable D.F.O., Khordha Dr. A. K. Pattnaik, Honourable M.L.A., Khordha Sri R. K. Sahoo, Honourable M.L.A., Jatni Sri B. B. Balabantroy were the dignitaries on the occasion.
Yoga training was imparted by Patanjali Yoga Group to the students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. The students also participated in the programme and were greatly benefitted by the programme. The students of the vidyalaya presented several programmes in the District Level Celebration of the Independence Day and bagged positions. Special Taekwondo training is being given to the girl students of the Vidyalaya for the purpose of empowerment of girl child.
At present our students are involved in collecting funds for Communal Harmony in order to donate to the poor.
All India Education Campaign on “Empowerment Through Values and Spirituality and Clean the Mind and Green the Earth “was organized in the Vidyalaya under the auspices of Prajapita Brahma Kumaris.
Youth Parliament :
As per the guideline of Govt.of India, Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, New Delhi, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Khordha conducted a Youth Parliament on 11/10/10. Hon,ble Member of Parliament Dr.Prasanna Kumar Patsani was the Chief guest of the occasion. The programme was highly appreciated by the guests.
Sports & Games:
Like every year this year also 52 students of our vidyalaya participated in Cluster Level Sports and Games meet, out of which 30 students were selected for the Regional Level. Out of 30 students 16 students were selected for national level sports & games for the year 2013-14.
Scout & Guide:
To instill the spirit of courage and service in students the Vidyalaya enrolled 32 Scouts and 32 Guides. 16 students have completed the Thritiya Sopan. They have attended the camp under the guidance of Mrs.C.Nayak, PET and Mr.P.K.Sahoo, Music teacher at JNV, Phulbani.
Cleaning work was done by these students in the neighboring village as a pace setting work.
Two students of X Std Mas.Sampad Sahoo and Kumari S.Subhasmita attended the National Adventures programme at Panchmarhi,Madhya Pradesh.
Co Curricular Activities:
In order to enrich the students in co-scholastic areas every Saturday various competitions like Solo Song,Mimicry, Essay Writing, Group Dance, Quiz, Debate etc. are held in the Vidyalaya and prizes are awarded to the students.
All the National and Regional festivals are celebrated in the Vidyalaya in order to inculcate in them social and cultural awareness.
Our Vidyalaya was awarded Certificate of Accrediation with B+ Grade by BJS EDIQUIP’s, a project of Bharatiya Jain Sangathana, Pune. Mr.J.Sahoo,PGT Englsih ,Senior Most Teacher has attended the training programme organized by the above social group as the Master Trainer and further he has trained all the teaching Community present in the Vidyalaya.
Sri Niranjan Sahoo, District Collector and Chairman VMC himself chaired the meeting and has given his valuable suggestions and solutions for the welfare of the vidyalaya.
Highlights of the Navodaya System:
The House System in a residential set up like ours is a unique feature to develop a healthy competitive spirit among the students in various academic, athletic and co-curricular activities providing ample opportunity for total participation. As per the Navodaya system the students are distributed into 4 houses for a corporate living and the spirit of healthy competitions among them. Developing leadership qualities, mutual co-existence and understanding of fellow students are the primary principles behind this house system. Experienced teachers as House Masters/Mistress monitor all the houses.
Safety & Security:
As a measure of safe & secure living of the students the Vidyalaya is launching a massive programme of campus cleaning every Sunday evening and on holidays. Under this programme all unwanted weeds are removed and all areas are made safe for the movement of the students.
All electrical gadgets, switch boards wires, plug points are thoroughly checked and necessary repairs are made from time to tome to avoid any untoward electrical accidents. Counseling is done at regular intervals for boosting confidence and morale of the students.
In every meeting safety and security is one of the agenda points and discussed in length and breadth for strict adherence.
Implementation of Official Language:
In order to strengthen the policy of National Language we observe “Hindi Fortnight” in which various events and competitions are conducted. Hindi Rajbhasa Karyanvayam Samiti has also been formulated comprising all language teachers and the office staff.
Health & Hygiene:
The services of the Vidyalaya Staff Nurse are available round the clock to cater to the medical needs of the students. Dr.Deban Das, Asst Surgeon visits our Vidyalaya once in a week. Frequent eye check up and time to time vaccinations are provided to the students.
The unique feature of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya scheme is the migration system. Under this scheme students of one JNV located in a Hindi speaking area migrate to another Vidyalaya in a Non Hindi speaking area and vice-versa. This migration system is evolved to promote National Integration among the students by learning the customs and culture, language and food habits of different parts of the country. The students of our Vidyalaya are migrated to JNV Varanasi. During this year 11 students of this Vidyalaya have been migrated to Varanasi and 11 students have been migrated from Varanasi.
Maths Lab & Science Lab:
Junior Science & Mathematics Labs have been established in the Vidyalaya. Projects & models on every chapter are prepared by students. Practicals are also conducted along with theory classes.
Our Vidyalaya is equipped with advanced teaching technology i.e. Computer aided education. There are 33 computers, 1 laptop & 2 LCD projectors. Smart class is used by the teachers for computer based teaching. All the 33 computers are connected with Broad band. Students can surf the net to get more and advanced information on their subjects. Apart from pen and paper information all the official
transactions, correspondences and academic activities are carried through computers by e-mail, Gmail and bureau fax.
To encourage the students in respect of History and Cultural heritage and to inculcate interest among them to learn facts and figures in an attractive niche, a museum corner has been set up in the Vidyalaya. The Social Science Department looks after the Museum Corner.
Adolescent Education Programme:
Mrs. B.L.Swain, Mrs. K.Behera, Mrs. M. Sinha, Mrs. A. L. Mohanty, Mr. P. K. Dora, Mr. P. Sangave, Mr. U. Nayak have undergone the training in AEP Programmes like AIDs awareness programme for counseling students to meet with adolescent problems and tackle them. Poster Competition relating to AEP are undertaken in the Vidyalaya.
E.Granthalaya has been formulated in our Library. Nearly 1800 Books from different sections are available. Apart from this Magazines, periodicals and journals are also available for upgrading the knowledge of students and staff.
Clubs & Activities:
Vidyalaya is enriched with various clubs like English, Hindi, Oriya, Maths, Science, Social Science, Music, Art, Sports & Library.
Every year working models are prepared by students in Science, Maths, SUPW and Social Science in order to enable them to participate in Cluster Level Competition. This year a social science model prepared by Mas.Motilal Uttarkabat based on Global Warming was selected for the Regional Level.
Our Vidyalaya Mess is run by the Senior Most Teacher. The Catering Assistant supervises preparation of healthy food for the students and the staff. Every month Mess Committee Meeting is conducted with the students and the menu is prepared. Nutritious food with sufficient calories is served to the students.
